Vintage N.B. CURTISS Round Back Mandolin antique
N.P.B. Curtiss was a musician, composer and inventor. Best know for his invention "Curtiss' Piano and Organ Indicator" which he patented in both USA and Canada. Curtiss worked from his New York office on Broadway street. He was active from about 1850s into perhaps the 1880s or 90s.
I believe that Curtiss may have bought parlor guitars, mandolins and perhaps other instruments and sold them branded as N.B. Curtiss. I have seen other mandolins exactly like this, with different branding. Curtiss published several guitar music books and many songs, piano and guitar compositions/songs.
With some minor restoration this mandolin would be a beautiful addition to any collection. N.B. Curtiss Guitars are very hard to find, and a Curtiss marked Mandolin is even rarer.
