    Description

This increasingly rare example of an early 1900s washburn mandolin is in better condition at 110 years of age then most modern mandolins after a decade.  Hand made to exacting standards by the most skilled craftsman of the day, this mandolin was made to last a life time making music.   Constructed from tone woods that are nearly unobtainable in todays instrument world, Brazilian rosewood and old growth red spruce gave this instrument the voice and projection it needed to function in an acoustic only world dominated by banjos and brass horns.  A century of playing time has allowed this mandolin to achieve its full tonal potential.    The combination of a the worlds most sought after tone wood and a century of playing time is the only recipe for the unique depth of tone and projection this mandolin possesses.
The mandolin is in excellent condition for 110 years old. The neck is incredibly straight and the action is low.  The mandolin plays nicely with no buzzing or dead spots.   There is plenty of room for future adjustment at the bridge. All parts and components are original.   The tuners function and hold pitch.  There is one repaired slat on the bowl (picture #9) and one small piece of binding has been replaced.     The mandolin has just been lightly cleaned and restrung with extra light strings.
The original case is included but is in poor shape.
